How it works
Hangul Rain is a typing game for learning Korean. Letters or words fall from the top of the screen. Type one and press nothing else: it pops as soon as it matches. Let five reach the ground and the game is over.
Three levels
- Letters: single Korean letters, with the key to press shown under each one. The best way to learn the keyboard layout. From stage 3, Shift letters like ㄲ and ㅆ start to fall too.
- Syllables: syllable blocks like 가, 몸 and 쌀, with their sound written underneath.
- Words: real words with their meaning. Pick one of the twelve vocabulary themes, like animals or colors, or mix them all.
Every eight words you pop, the stage goes up: words fall faster and more often, and each one is worth more points. When the game ends, you see the words you missed so you can review them.
Controls
- Type with your regular keyboard (keys are mapped to Korean letters) or tap the on-screen keys.
- Enter clears what you typed if you made a mistake. Esc pauses.
- Turn on "Show sounds and key hints" while learning; the next key lights up on the keyboard.
Frequently asked questions
Is this game good for learning Korean?
It trains reading and typing at the same time: you have to recognize the letters quickly and know where they are on the keyboard. The words level adds vocabulary with meanings.
Can I play on my phone?
Yes. Tap the on-screen keyboard under the game. It also works with a Korean keyboard installed on your phone.
How is the score counted?
Each word is worth 10 points per keystroke, multiplied by the stage. Longer words and higher stages score more.
Does the game save my best score?
Your best score for each level is kept in this browser only. Nothing is sent to us.
